ABNORMAL- Jutaphit Usaha

Within the current abnormal reality and the city’s third lockdown, travel has been interrupted and stores have been unable to sell their goods leading to the closure of many business and food stalls. Soi Convent has also been affected in the way that the working-class people who used to roam the area on their way to and from their jobs are working from home, or, for some, have lost their jobs completely. The exchange of goods and services that used to fill the area was silenced and a sense of abnormality took over the area alongside the increasing number of cases of infected people and, in response, expanded lockdown measures that were put in place. Following the easing of these lockdown measures, people were able to return to work as usual and shopping and selling resumed almost as if nothing had happened. The traffic in the area also resumed to a normal level within the designated time that people are allowed to move about freely, given the 9pm curfew. To a certain extent, this period marks an opening of the city and inspired me to observe the journey of life, recorded as a story within the Soi Convent area. The neighborhood sits within the city center and a good number of people frequent the area from morning until evening, writing stories of the abnormal reality of this moment as they pass through, day by day.

“ความปกติที่ไม่มีจริง” ตั้งแต่เกิดการปิดเมืองครั้งที่ 3 การเดินทางหยุดชะงัก ร้านค้าหยุดขายและเป็นไปได้ที่ต้องยกเลิกกิจการ รวมไปถึงร้านค้า ร้านข้าวซอยคอนแวนต์ที่ได้รับผลกระทบส่วนหนึ่ง เนื่องจากคนวัยทำงานที่สัญจรบริเวณนั้นต้องตกงาน หรือหยุดงานทำงานอยู่ที่บ้าน การจับจ่ายตกลดลงไปอย่างเห็นได้ชัด ข้าพเจ้าเห็นความผิดปกติที่ไม่ปกติจนทำให้เกิดการปกติของรัฐบาลที่มียอดผู้ติดเชื้อเพิ่มสูงขึ้นทำให้ขยายการปิดเมืองเพิ่มมากขึ้น จนกระทั่งคลายล็อคดาวน์ผู้คนสามารถกลับมาทำงานได้ปกติ การจับจ่าย ขายของกลับมาแทบปกติจนไม่เกิดอะไรขึ้น แต่ว่าการสัญจรยังกลับมาไม่ปกติสำหรับการใช้ชีวิตอยู่ดี เนื่องจากมีเวลาจำกัดในการใช้ชีวิตนอกสถานที่ถึงเวลา 3 ทุ่ม ของทุกวันเป็นระยะเวลาหลังจากเปิดเมืองในระดับหนึ่ง ทำให้ข้าพเจ้าอยากสังเกตการณ์การเดินทาง การใช้ชีวิต ถูกและบันทึกออกมาเป็นเรื่อง ๆ หนึ่ง การทำงานบริเวณซอยคอนแวนต์เป็นอีกที่ที่สนใจ เนื่องจากอยู่ในแหล่งใจกลางเมืองที่มีผู้คนและร้านค้าจำนวนนึงหนึ่งที่ผ่านหลังระหว่างทาง ไม่ว่าเช้าจรดเย็น ทำให้เกิดเรื่องราวในแต่ละวันและช่วงเวลา

Jutaphit Usaha is a 23 year old art worker who loves and appreciates art, music, movies and literature. Usaha looks at the world honestly and, conveyed in terms of meaning and signs, considers the process of learning to be, in itself, a work of art. Usaha views life as an opportunity to surf in the real world of human dreams and loneliness.
